Issue 13: Bad Boy Street Team

I just finished issue thirteen, titled Bad Boy Street Team. 20 pages, 8.5" x 5.5", black and white zine with lilac cover. Illustrations, photos, and photocopy affected text throughout of a selection of work I have done and completed over the last while, including sign painting and some logos I created. Union Press: Issue Three - Online

Dick Jokes 1.1

My friend Zach, aka Tankass, sent me the first issue of his new zine Dick Jokes. It is a wonderfully done black and white zine (and he recently came in to the possession of some coloured paper, so bright covers seem to be infiltrating - Yo Sick approves of this) full of photos of bike rides, his local motorcycle gang, skateboarding, and photos he shot of his friends that he's been developing in his basement. It radiates the same honesty and enthusiasm that Tank has as soon as you meet him, and seems to be created with the same motivation that Yo Sick is, to share things he likes with his friends. He sent me this print of a photo of some pizzas that appears in the zine, except he laid a Yo Sick sticker over the top of it when he was developing it, or something like that. I'm not really sure how photo developing occurs. I just give a roll to the wizard's at the lab and let them perform their sorcery.

Dark Wave

I've been waiting and looking forward to the Dark Wave zine from Jay Howell. Published by Unpiano Books and released February 18th.

Union Press: Issue One

Union Press is a collaborative project that has been in the works for the last few months between Brad Hill from BMXFU and Yo Sick. This is the first issue, and our aim with this publication was to make a tangible extension of our interests with photos, writing and illustrations, and to highlight some interesting characters in Canadian BMX that we have the pleasure of knowing. You can expect a two page broadsheet printed on newsprint, with fold out posters from OSS and Macneil. Inside you will find work from Brad Hill, myself and a list of contributors that includes Mike Cardin, Riley McMaster, Eric Marshall, and Nashville’s Andrew White.

You can find copies of it in bike shops across Canada that deal with Ten Pack Distribution. If you don’t have a local bike shop you can buy it in the online store for the cost of shipping.

Union Press

Brad Hill picked up all 2000 copies of the Union Press zine that I've been working on with him for the last few months. 2 page broadsheet on newsprint full of photos, words, and illustrations by him and I, along with some guests. I'll have more photos and info up and available to order in the online store in the new year.

Help Holeshot

Help Holeshot Zine reach it's goal to produce their 9th and final issue. Click the banner for the info and donate:

To keep our approach fresh, issue 9 will be a box set of zines and materials produced by Holeshot's main contributors and friends. Since its beginning, Holeshot has generally taken the form of a normal 5.5"x8.5" zine format. To celebrate the end of the zine though, issue 9 will be a box set of zines and materials from Holeshot's contributors and friends. Included in each box set will be a multitude of zines, photographs, DVD-R, and BMX ephemera. Our working edition is 250. The end result will be a box that resembles a book that can be shelved. Currently, our contributors and their respective projects are:

Way Bad/Standard Issue

I've never actually met Ben Jensen, but I used to read his website Standard Issue for the writing for years, then he started to turn it in to a black and white print magazine with great illustrations that I would pick up around town. I realized a co-worker was writing a regular column, and then I started passing copies of Yo Sick to Ben through said intermediary. On top of life, family, kids, and Standard Issue, Ben also started to keep a drawing blog going called Way Bad where he posts low-brow illustrations whenever he feels like it, (face it, doing it every day is tough as shit). Below are some of my favourite drawings pulled from his site, and to the ten people that read this site, you should click both links for more of his work.

Toronto Zine Library

Meant to post this a while ago, but you can find a number of issues of Yo Sick and the Toronto Zine Library at 292 Brunswick Avenue, on the second floor of the Tranzac Club.

Amigos Shop

Nick Ferreira opened his new shop Amigos in Providence this past weekend, and amidst answering some questions about the space on Defgrip, he even gave a quick mention to Yo Sick.

"Prashant Gopal’s Locals Only, which is part of his series called Yo Sick, is one of my favorite newer BMX zines."


There are limited copies of Locals Only in store at Amigos, or you can just email me and I have a few left.

Nieves Zine App

This free app from Nieves seems like an interesting idea. Doesn't hurt that it's free either.
